Peugeot 106 XSi racing

Stock Hatch Championship 2001 - Peugeot 106 XSi

Following some reasonable racing success in the national Stock Hatch championship in a Fiesta XR2, Steve Gordon made the decision to embark on a self build Peugeot 106 XSi race car for the 2001 racing season.

The car was fantastic to drive, it had a tendancy to oversteer, but on full power this was easily controllable, and confidence inspiring. The car was still under development for the first couple of races but once completed there was an immediate improvement in race results, and a fabulous battle for the 2001 championship title began, with podium finishes at Cadwell Park, Snetterton & Pembrey, along the way.

These video clips show the Cadwell Park race, a perfect start, 1st place by the 1st corner, and the Mallory Park race, a very intense battle ends in the gravel!

Stock Hatch championship 2002 - Peugeot 106 XSi

After the successes in 2001, 2002 was a much more low key affair, with a few guest outings only rather than a full on attempt at the title.

2004 season & onwards - Peugeot 106 XSi

In 2004, another Peugeot 106 XSi was acquired, modified for racing in the Stock Hatch championship - utilising all that had been learned from previous years. This was to be a publicity tool for SGR Engineering, but eventually in 2005 it was sold to Matt Wilkins, who took it to a number of race wins.
